GAINS (General Aviation Improved Navigation and Surveillance) is a two-year joint partnerhip project co-funded by the SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programm.
The objectives of GAINS are to validate avionics concepts and use of instrument flight procedures tailored to General Aviation. The project is driven by stakeholders of the General Aviation (GA) community. Live flying exercises will by carried out in the UK under coordination of AOPA UK.
The results shall improve efficiency and predictability of GA and Rotorcraft operations at uncontrolled aerodromes. GAINS also envisages to provide basic ATC services at aerodromes where this is normally not economically viable.
