As part of the “C2Land” project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (FKZ: 50NA2003) and administered by the DLR Space Management, f.u.n.k.e. AVIONICS GmbH, together with the Technical University of Braunschweig, the Technical University of Munich and Volocopter, developed a system for automatic landing for VTOL aircraft and integrated it into the Volocopter test platform. The C2Land system is a camera-assisted navigation and flight control system to automatically identify the runway and guide the aircraft there. The system tested works independently of the GPS-based landing system and is used for automatic and autonomous Advanced Air Mobility and Urban Air Mobility landings. In this research project, f.u.n.k.e. AVIOINICS developed the transponder-based anti-collision system, which initiates an automatic evasive maneuver in the event of an intrusion into the airspace. The system has been validated during a flight test campaign and paves the way for the use of the technology in manned and unmanned aircraft as a backup for GNSS-based navigation systems, which are increasingly faced with problems such as jamming and spoofing.
