The Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. and funke AVIONICS are developing a small handheld device for pilots that can detect Hashtag#GNSS jamming and spoofing events. This is part of the new JASPER project, funded by ESA. The goal is to bring anti-jamming and anti-spoofing technology into aircraft.
The number of GNSS jamming and spoofing incidents has dramatically increased worldwide, also in European airspace. Especially GNSS spoofing poses a growing threat to commercial aviation. This creates an urgent need for jamming- and spoofing-robust GNSS technology. While such systems exist and have proven their potential, there are currently no solutions qualified for use in commercial aviation.
The intended JASPER-device can be installed on an operational aircraft as loose equipment and provides the cockpit crew with valuable information to improve situational awareness without replacing existing GNSS receivers.
