Our Engineering Center has moved within Ulm
A variety of engineering projects, both for our own product lines as well as special solutions we realise for various well-known aerospace companies, have led to a need for more space in our Ulm branch.
Our Engineering Center has, therefore, moved within the city of Ulm. From now on, you can reach us in Magirusstrasse 39/1 in 89077 Ulm.
Our new offices are located in the Western part of the city of Ulm and can easily be reached via public transport in a few minutes from Ulm's Main Station.
From these new premises we also plan to realise future engineering projects in the area of "smart operations" for the whole f.u.n.k.e. Group while contributing significantly to the growth of our entire company group.

First Drone Test Flights with Mode S Transponder TRT800H successfully conducted at Frankfurt Airport
Fraport AG is currently building its new Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport. This huge construction site requires steady geodetic survey which is supplemented by new drone based technology. The drones when operating in this busy international airport area must be visible to other aircraft and to air traffic control which requires that the drones carry airworthy secondary radar transponders.
The first drone supplied by Multirotor was now equipped in June 2018 with a Mode S Transponder from f.u.n.k.e. AVIONICS and operated through the TPI company in several flights to exactly measure the excavasion work and to document the construction work progress.
By making use of the Mode S Transponders from f.u.n.k.e. AVIONICS all flights were continuously visible to Air Traffic Control as well as to the public on the well-known Flightradar24 application.
f.u.n.k.e. AVIONICS is currently miniaturizing several selected transponder functions in order to meet challenging dimension and power requirements for use onboard drones. A first step to achieve this goal is the new ATOM product line - a small matchbox sized ADS-B Transmitter, which broadcasts the drone position on the radar response frequency 1090MHz and makes the drone visible to Air Traffic Control and the surrounding air traffic. A first operational use is currently planned in the United Kingdom, where the use of the ADS-B Transmitter has been certified through the local UK-CAA authority by means of the CAP1391 initiative.

AERO 2018: Welcome at f.u.n.k.e. AVIONICS in Hall B1!
Welcome to the AERO2018 - we would be delighted to welcome you on our stand 102 / hall B1.
Since 01.01.2018 the use of radios with 8,33 kHz channel spacing is mandatory in all European Aircraft. The demand for radios was and is correspondingly high. We are happy that we successfully managed this big challenge and introduced our new radio ATR833S very well on the market.
The completely new designed successor of the ATR833 (LCD and OLED) was placed as well very successful. In time for the AERO 2018 the flat-panel radio ATR833A is now available as well with the new electronics.
Together with the well known FSG90 radios, approved for ground operations, we can offer ideal radio solutions for all kind of applications. We will now finalise this development with the market introduction of the 8,33 kHz capable hand-held radio FSG8, which will get approval for mobile ground communications and will go into sales in summer.

f.u.n.k.e AVIONICS participates in European GAINS project
Since the beginning of the year f.u.n.k.e. AVIONICS is partner in GAINS (General Aviation Improved Navigation and Surveillance), a two-year joint partnerhip project co-funded by the SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programm.
In the frame of large scale demonstrations GAINS shall demonstrate that "small" aircraft can be better integrated into the overall air traffic making use of modern avionics and respectively adaptet procedures - since better integration means less restrictions. The results shall, therefore, bring benefits to all private pilots.
For the large scale demonstrations f.u.n.k.e. AVIONICS provides avionics equipment (25 so called Low Power ADS-B Transceiver (LPAT)) as well as respective ground stations. LPAT receives transponder and FLARM signals, shows aircraft nearby to the pilot and gives a warning in case of a potential conflict. LPAT transmits as well ADS-B data (own position, altitude and speed) periodically on the 1090 MHz frequency and may, therefore, be detected by other aircraft as well as ADS-B receivers on ground.
The project is driven by stakeholders of the General Aviation (GA) community. Live flying exercises will by carried out in the UK under coordination of AOPA UK. The results of the large scale demonstrations are expected to be available by the end of 2019.

f.u.n.k.e. AVIONICS wishes a Happy New Year!
Our product business in 2017 was dominated by the implementation of 8.33 kHz voice channel spacing capability below FL 195 in Europe and turned out to be the most successful year in our 26-year company history.
